ASL Interpreting: Soft Skills to the Rescue!

The term “Soft Skills” refers to the personal qualities, traits, behaviors, and social attitudes that allow individuals to relate effectively and successfully with others in the workplace and/or in social settings.
While Soft Skills are vital in all facets of our work and social lives, these skills are invaluable within the field of Interpreting. As interpreters, we are constantly managing the needs and expectations of our clients, as well as ourselves, while on assignments. Achieving this task without a practiced set of Soft Skills can be a recipe for failure.
