When you are new to the field of interpreting, every step can feel precarious.  At times, the work is intense and unpredictable. 

A mentor can make all the difference.

I have witnessed the generosity of so many mentors in our community as they gave of themselves and offered their expertise to others.  

Their mentorship provided a sense of safety and belonging, as they took mentees under their wing, showed them the ropes, and answered their questions. 

Mentors can become close friends.  They can be cherished confidantes, cheerleaders, and coaches in our corner. They offer guidance, support, and encouragement that helps us to grow. Great mentors make us see what is possible and encourage us to keep striving.

How beautiful it is to borrow from and be inspired by others, and to incorporate that inspiration into our work.  To achieve more because of those who touch our lives. 

Mentorship is a gift that you can repay best by passing it on and lifting up the people around you.
